He looks pretty cute in that hat, right? Too bad it fell out of Mommy's purse at some point and got lost. We decided the goats probably ate it. (Emerson is satisfied with this version of events.)
He was most interested in the inanimate objects--swings, tractors, some Indian teepees--and in running around the grounds. I think the animals made him a little nervous, although he enjoyed petting a calf and looking at pigs and chickens. He got very nervous when we went into a pen full of baby goats.
This weekend, Brandon and Alison took a trip to California to check out housing possibilities for Brandon's internship next year. He'll be working in Martinez, California, which is in the San Francisco bay area. This was the beautiful view from the airplane as we flew in.
Martinez was the home of naturalist John Muir, and there are a lot of things named after him in the area. Also, there was a portrait of him in the lobby of our hotel.
Martinez also has a marina with lovely views.
And best of all...they have It's-It ice cream sandwiches! It's-Its are a childhood favorite of Brandon's from trips to Big Sur. And soon we'll be living in their home territory.
Meanwhile, Emerson was having a fabulous time at home with Mimi. They played with playdough together...
...and Emerson got in some practice for Easter with an egg hunt in the backyard. (or as he calls it, "Brisquette's potty land"--gross!)
This was Mommy and Daddy's first trip out of town without Emerson. Happy to report that we all survived!
And in a fun coincidence, we saw a very relevant article while we were traveling. Remember this picture from every computer desktop ever?

You can read the story of the photo (and watch a fun video of the photographer) here. Spoiler alert: it wasn't photoshopped, and was taken in Napa Valley, less than an hour away from where we'll be moving. Apparently this is what January looks like there. Pretty!
