Alison's New Hair

Today was an it's-a-new-semester-let's-get-a-haircut-day! Just to remind you, here's what it looked like before:

Hooray!

Here's what else we've been up to this week. Ben came to town and he and Brandon went to Payson to pick up a 100-year-old drill press Ben had bought on Craigslist.
Last night we checked out a performance at the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival. It was outdoors at the Scera Shell in Orem. Good times and good entertainment.

Falls and Hays

On our drive from Portland to Provo, we stopped at Twin Falls, Idaho to see Shoshone Falls. They were pretty impressive.






Further down the road, we stopped off in Logan to see our friends Ben and Melanie and their son Oliver. We toured their house and yard (complete with an awesome squash garden that started growing accidentally and is now taking over the yard).

Last Days In Oregon

A couple of days before we left Portland, we went out for fancy desserts with Chris and Elizabeth. They were rather large desserts. Brandon came closest to finishing his.


The lake by Grandma's house. We spent lots of quality time here.
We had an end-of-summer barbecue with the BYU interns at Judy's house. Judy is standing at the far left; Dr. Higley is kneeling.
We wanted to hang an object from the ceiling of Grandma's garage so she would know how far to pull her car in. We found a stuffed monkey and rigged him up. Works perfectly, but maybe it's a little weird...

Anniversary

We celebrated our second anniversary this Tuesday with a trip to Portland's International Rose Test Garden.

We saw lots of roses with interesting names. There were roses named after Audrey Hepburn, John F. Kennedy, and Reba McIntire, among others. Here is Alison posing with "Rock N Roll."


This one is called "Lagerfeld". (It's kind of hard to see, but the rose is a very pale lavender color.)
Brandon poses with "Black Magic," which is supposed to be the "blackest" rose in the garden (looks pretty red to me). Alison tries to be artsy with the photography.
Our romantic anniversary date wouldn't be complete without a monkey sighting...

Reed College Tour

Our friend Chris from BYU now lives here in Portland and works at the primate center. His girlfriend Elizabeth went to Reed College, so she was the leader of our little campus tour. Their dog Loki is a senior citizen but he was pretty energetic and enjoyed the tour as well. The college was almost deserted because Reed doesn't have classes in the summer.

...well, it's deserted except for those people in the background of our picture. How did they get there?

Chris had an out-of-body experience in Reed's pool hall.

Grandma got a new haircut today. She's not sure if she likes it, so we thought we'd open it up for a vote.
