Emerson and Johnson, Traveling

After a few days of fun at the beach, we headed to Idaho to get to the next family reunion. At the beginning of the drive, we stopped at Bonneville Dam, one of our favorite places to visit when we're in the Portland area. At the dam, they have viewing areas where you can see what fish are migrating through the fish ladders. You can also view the ladders from above.

The site also has a fish hatchery, where you can see fish at various stages of development, as well as ponds full of adult fish, including rainbow trout (below) and some giant sturgeon.

Then it was time for several hours of driving. Grandma Lori entertained Emerson while Alison slept in the background.

We also had the chance for a quick visit with Grandpa George and Grandma Cheryl. Their hometown of Pasco was a great place to stop for a meal and a break from driving, plus it was their first chance to meet Emerson.

Emerson is grumpy in this picture for some reason, but he actually enjoyed his meal of chicken nuggets and french fries. Alison's sandwich came with a giant mound of tater tots. (Fun fact: Tater tots were invented by Ore-Ida company founders F. Nephi Grigg and Golden Grigg--how about those Mormon names?)

Our final stop en route to the Idaho reunion was the Spokane airport, where we exchanged our rental cars. Emerson and Eric pointed out planes...

...and then we hung out with Uncle Neil on a bench while waiting to load the car.

Finally, we were on our way and headed for more adventures...To Be Continued...
