Inside

By the time we saw this place, we had been through a lot of apartments. We had almost committed to a typical "big complex"--hundreds of units, relatively new, swimming pool and fitness room, etc.--in Kansas, but had some doubts. We found this place through a Craigslist ad, and as soon as we saw it, we were making plans to move in. We looked at a couple more places before making the decision, but we kept comparing everything (unfavorably) with this place! The landlords were great--they had the whole place cleaned, paint touched up, etc. in just a couple of days for us to move in.

Here's the living room. We love the wood floor and moldings. Also note the paneled glass doors out to the balcony.
The matador painting is in a place of honor.

Brandon's desk, with his drawing of Hugh Nibley above the computer for inspiration.
We call this next area the "dining room" since that seems like the original intention for this space, although we don't have a dining table in it. Another cool paneled door leads into the kitchen area.

Alison's desk area, where Very Important Thesis Writing is (supposed to be) done.

More dining room, including Brandon's church history bookshelf...and his skull collection.

It wouldn't be home without the vintage '70s Bruce Springsteen poster! The apartment lacks storage in other areas but makes up for it in this room with a giant closet.
Brandon is meditating in the kitchen. In our apartment search, most of the older buildings we looked at a) had hideous, peeling linoleum and b) lacked dishwashers. This apartment has tile and a (small but functioning) dishwasher--hooray!
The back door leads out of the kitchen to the back stairs. We love the 1920s doorknobs throughout the apartment, and this one even has the original key in it.

...And here's our attractive solution to the lack of storage in the kitchen. Maybe it will discourage us from eating too much junk food, since it is all out on display.

The bathroom was green when we moved in, so we left it that way.

Cool tile.
Our bedroom.

Not enough built-in storage in here, either. Or maybe we just have too many clothes...

The view out our bedroom window. The house next door has a huge yard with a garden.

This is our building's backyard. The van in the back is in the post office parking lot--that's how close the post office is.

We hope you've enjoyed the tour!

Hey Alison! I somehow found your blog through someone else's blog. I love you're new apartment, it has so much character. Hope you enjoy Kansas City!

Oh my goodness, I'm so jealous! Your place looks amazing. I've always dreamed of living in an old apartment like that - the closest I got was that little pink house in Provo (which Brandon might remember - Alison, it was before we met). Anyways, your place looks like such a find! I hope it's every bit as awesome as it looks!

I love your apartment! I hope you're enjoying it. Your storage solutions are pretty awesome- we're kinda dealing with that here in Georgia too. We love our place, but wish the storage was a little better :)

My word, it's lovely. Reminds me of our place in Boston. Which also reminds me we never posted pictures of it. And now we're moving. Oh well. Maybe the next place.

That is so cute, I love the woodwork throughout and the cool doorknobs. Meredith's first apt. in Springville had a kitchen that looked just like that but maybe smaller. Anyway, she had a rack like that in hers too! Anyway, I'm really glad you didn't choose a huge complex, that just doesn't fit your personality like this does!
