Today I attended an interesting
lecture on
Charles Darwin as part of
BYU's
Charles Darwin Bicentennial Week. Here is my account of what happened in pictures and video. The lecture was held in the
Maeser Building on the
BYU campus.
Thursday is Darwin's 200th
birthday and birthday cake will be served following another campus lecture. This year is also the 150th
anniversary of the publication of
On The Origin of Species.

Here is the
lecturer,
Daniel Fairbanks, near the begining of his talk. At the end of this clip is a
portrait of
Karl G. Maeser.
Professor Fairbanks worked on the sculpture throught the entire lecture.
Darwin didn't have a
beard when
On The Origin of Species was published.

Fairbanks says he has only sculpted a
bust of Darwin 4 or 5 times in his
life. He referenced no photos or paintings of Darwin when creating the bust. Pretty amazing.

Amazing!!! I'm so intrigued by the sculpting while lecturing. Wish I could have been there!
