The 4th

The 4th of July has traditionally been one of my least favorite holidays. It seems that every 4th of July is overshadowed by some sort of misunderstanding. This being said, there have been a few good 4ths. As a kid my family would go to Lacy Park out near the Pasadena area of Southern California. One year, my brother Kendall and I ventured into some bushes at the park to retrive a frisbee. To my suprise I discoverd that I could walk on top of the bushes. My brother and I were into magic at the time and as far as we were concerned, this was magic. We spent the rest of the day, all the way up until the fireworks show, walking on the bushes and amazing bystanders and passerbyers. That night a large peice of firework sharpnal landed on my lawn blanket burning a hole through it. Maybe this explains my fear of blankets with holes through the fabric. Of my adult years my favorite 4th of July was on my mission in St. Augustine, Florida. I sat on the shore of the Matanzas Inlet and watched the firework show across the water near Castillo De San Marcos National Monument.
