The other day in a class that I T.A. for the professor was talking about how we can all greatly improve our memorizing skills. The professor then had us watch a video of a man who memorized 100,000 of the numbers of pie. In the video a psychologist was holding a large paper chart with 100.000 of the numbers in pie printed on the chart. The psychologist then proceeded to read 10 of the numbers from somewhere in the middle of the chart. He then asked the memorizing man to pick up where he left off in the number sequence. Even though the memorizing man could not see the chart of numbers the psychologist was holding, he called out the next 60 numbers in the pie sequence. After about 60 numbers the psychologist cut the memorizing man off saying that we get the point. The memorizing man then gave advice on how we can all greatly improve our memorizing skills for college. 1. Be genuinely motivated, yes, this means you must care about the subject you are trying to memorize in order to be most effective 2. Actively listen in classes, think of why things are being said 3. Review class material immediately after the class has ended 4. Always study in the same place, ideally in the place you will take the class and in the same clothes 5. Change study subjects every 45 minutes.
